Most of the time when you come to me you do not know you are absorbing other people’s emotions. You think you simply feel everything. You have no framework for distinguishing between what is genuinely yours and what you picked up from the person you had coffee with this morning, the colleague who was stressed in the meeting, the stranger on the phone who was having a terrible day.

You cry at sad movies. You cry at sappy commercials. You feel devastated by news stories about people you have never met. You leave social situations carrying a weight you cannot explain and you attribute it to being too sensitive rather than understanding that you have literally absorbed someone else’s emotional state into your own field.

A significant part of what I do with you in a session is teach you how to make this distinction. How to identify what is genuinely yours versus what you absorbed. How to recognize the difference in the quality of a feeling that originates from inside you versus one that came in from outside. This is not a metaphysical skill. It is a practical one that changes daily life immediately once it is learned.
